Couple therapy is considered as the treatment of choice for common distresses and problems within couples' relationships. Different models of couple therapy have been developed with the shared aim of treating the couples' distressed relationship. The present article has two purposes. Firstly, this article introduces the principles and techniques of a new couple therapy model named paradoxical couple therapy or PTC-based couple therapy. Secondly, this article evaluates the effectiveness of PTC-based couple therapy for the treatment of couples' distressed relationship. A husband and wife participated in the present study to receive a PTC-based couple therapy. Evaluation of clinical indices as well as treatment outcomes were performed based on Mental Health Inventory (MHI-28), Golombok Rust Inventory of Marital State Questionnaire (GRIMS), and the Treatment Outcome Subjective Rating Scale (TOSRS) at intake, the end of treatment sessions, and in a 2 and 4 years follow-up. The results indicated a considerable increase in the couples' score of psychological well-being as well as a considerable decrease in their score of psychological distress and relationship problems. Evaluation of the treatment outcomes also revealed that the treatment was completely successful. The couple rated their progress and improvement at the end of the treatment 90% for the wife and 95% for the husband. Evaluation of the treatment outcomes in a 2 and then 4 years follow-up showed that the treatment changes were satisfactory, stable and permanent, during which no relapse was happened. These results corroborate the deep and permanent effects of the PTC-based couple therapy in the shortest possible time. The influential mechanisms of “timetable for periodical management” and "timetable for paradoxical reciprocity negotiation", as the two main PTC-based couple therapy techniques, and their adjustment to the treatment outcomes are explained in the present article. The PTC-based couple therapy, as a very short-term, effective, efficient and yet economical approach is introduced and suggested for the treatment of couples' distresses and problems.

The family provides a loving and supportive environment for family members. If a family becomes involved with internal conflict, distortion, and violence between individuals, it loses its status as an emotional-psychological base for its members. In this regard, marital conflict is one of the problems that families face all over the world. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of emotion-based schema therapy and short-term solution-based therapy on psychological well-being and flexibility-action in women with marital conflict. The statistical population of this study included all women referring to psychological centers in Ahvaz in 2019 that 45 women were selected by purposive sampling and randomly divided into two experimental groups and one control group. The Marital Conflict Questionnaire (MCQ), Psychological Well-Being (PWB), and Action Flexibility (CD-RIS) questionnaires were used to collect data. The present study was an experimental field study with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The first experimental group received emotion-based schema therapy intervention (twelve 120-minutes sessions) and the second experimental group received short-term solution-based therapy (six 120-minutes sessions), and the control group did not receive any intervention. The results showed that both therapeutic interventions were effective in increasing psychological well-being and action flexibility in women with marital conflict who were referred to psychological centers. However, there was no significant difference between the effectiveness of the two therapies on psychological well-being and functional flexibility in the respondents. Therefore, it is possible to use emotion-based therapy schema and short-term solution-based therapies to increase psychological well-being and flexibility of action in these women.

The crucial role of marital satisfaction in the health of the individual, family, and society has attracted many researchers in the last few decades. Thus, multiple studies have been done on this issue. The current study investigated the factors related to marital satisfaction in Iran. This research was developmental in terms of its purpose. In terms of the nature of the data, it was a meta-analysis. Moreover, to analyze the data, we applied Sandelowski and Barroso’s models to combine the qualitative data. In this regard, according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a sample group consisting of twenty-one articles was selected for analysis. The results of this study led to the identification of four categories, including individual, marital, family, and environmental factors which affected the couples’ marital satisfaction. In addition, the category of marital factors which referred to the concepts related to marital relationship was named as the main category affecting marital satisfaction. The results of this meta-analysis showed that to achieve optimal marital satisfaction, one should pay attention to the individual, family, and environmental factors along with strengthening the marital relationships between a couple. Nevertheless, the factors related to marital relationships had the most influential role in marital satisfaction.

Regarding the role of the family in the development of behavioral and emotional problems in adolescence, the purpose of this study was to examine the mediating role of couples’ communications patterns in the relationship between marital conflict and internalizing and externalizing problems in adolescent girls. For this purpose, 320 high school female students of Tehran and their mothers completed the marital conflict Questionnaire (MCQ), the Communication Patterns Questionnaire (CPQ) and the Achenbach Adolescent Youth Self Report (YSR). The data were analyzed using the structural equation modeling approach. The results showed that in relative intermediary pattern, the relationship < /span> between the manufacturer and the non manufacturer of the pattern, all paths were statistically significant, except the path of between manufacturer, non manufacturer communication pattern and externalizing problems. There was a negatively significant relationship between the interactive constructive communication pattern and internalizing problems. Also, there was a negatively insignificant relationship between the interactive constructive communication pattern and externalizing problems. In the non-constructive pattern, the relationship between marital conflict and non constructive communication pattern was significantly positive and with internalizing problem was positive and significant. Also, with externalizing problems was positive and insignificant. Based on the results, it seems that marital conflict disrupts the couples’ communication patterns, leading to internalizing problems in adolescent girls.

Divorce is one of the most stressful events in children and parents' life. Divorce is a major change and reorganization of life that influences children`s adjustment over time. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of Children of Divorce Intervention Program (COPID) on decreasing internalized and externalized problems in children. In this experimental research, with pre-test post-tests with control group, twenty five 10-12 years old children from divorced families in Kashmar were selected as sample. For 13 children in experimental group 15 sessions of CODIP was administrated in 3 days per week and 5 consecutive weeks, but 12 children in control group received no program. Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) was the research measurement tool. Results showed that CODIP has significant effect on decreasing externalized problems; but no significant effect on internalized problems in children from divorced families. Since children of divorced parents are more at risk of behavior problems, attention to group programs and teaching problem solving skills is important for this children and empowering them in life. In addition to reducing some problems, the skills that were taught are in such a way children and their parents can easily implement them in the real life and benefit from their positive effects.

Abstract: Distress in couple relationships is one of the most prevalent concerns in the recent decades that has considerable negative impacts on the biopsychosocial health of couples and their offspring. The present research aimed to compare the effectiveness of emotionally-focused and narrative couple therapy on the marital quality and emotional, cognitive and behavioral impaired functioning of distressed couples. The research design was randomized controlled trial and the sample consisted of 18 distressed couples who were randomly assigned to either NCT or EFCT as experimental groups and received between 8-12 weekly sessions of emotionally-focused couple therapy and narrative couple therapy. Also they were assessed in the screening, pre and post treatment, and follow-up stages utilizing Dyadic Adjustment Scale, The Experiences in Close Relationship Scale-Short Form, Relationship Attribution Measure, Rahim Organizational conflict Inventory-2, and Millon Clinical Multiaxail Inventory-III. Results revealed that NCT leads to significant change in the marital quality and behavioral impaired functioning by the end of the treatment, but the improvement was not steady at follow-up. EFCT led to significant changes in the marital quality, emotional and cognitive impaired functioning at the posttreatment. Also, in this group, behavioral impaired functioning was significantly improved at the follow-up. This improvement was steady except the attachment avoidance. Furthermore, outcomes for clinically significant changes favored EFCT both at the posttreatment and follow-up, but there were no significant differences between EFCT and NCT in the recovery rates in both assessment points.

Abstract: Indiscipline is a multidimensional phenomenon that has undesirable effects on classroom. The purpose of this study was to investigate the causal relationship between parenting styles and attachment styles in school with mediation of emotional self-regulation, social skills and the Mind Theory in female third grade high school students of Ahwaz. Of this population‚ 440 female students were selected through multistage random sampling method. Instruments used in this study included the Baumrind's Parenting Style Questionnaire (BPSQ), the Adult Attachment Inventory (AAI), a researcher-made indiscipline inventory, the Schering Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (SEIQ), The Teenage Inventory of Social Skills (TISS) and Reading the Mind in the Eyes Test (RMET). The results of the modified model showed that the parenting styles (authoritative, authoritarian and permissive) and the attachment styles (secure, avoidant insecure and ambivalent), not only directly affect indiscipline, but also indirectly exert an effect through mediation variables of emotional self-regulation and social skills. Mind reading in the proposed model was not recognized as a mediator variable in the corrected model and could only directly effect the indiscipline. It can be concluded that the parents' knowledge of appropriate parenting style, developing emotional, social skills and guiding them in successful experiences could lead to equipping them with emotional abilities, managing emotions, and wider social relationships, and thereby, reducing their indiscipline.

Abstract :Interactions between family members in childhood, especially the parent-child relationship, affects how individuals behave in interpersonal relationships in adulthood. The aim of the present study was to examine the mediating role of interpersonal problems in the relationship between parenting styles and marital problems. A total of 249 volunteers (93 men, 156 women) from Tehran family courts participated in this study. All participants were asked to complete Parental Authority Questionnaire (PAQ), Inventory of Interpersonal Problems (IIP-30), and Golombok Rust Inventory of Marital State (GRIMS). Authoritative parenting style showed a significant negative association with marital problems while authoritarian parenting style was significantly in positive association with marital problems. Permissive parenting style showed a negative association with marital problems; however it was not statistically significant. Interpersonal problems also showed a significant positive association with marital problems. Analysis of the data revealed that interpersonal problems mediated the relationship between parenting styles and marital problems. Based on the results of the present study, it can be concluded that some kind of parenting styles might develop interpersonal problems. Marital problems and couples’ dissatisfaction could be consequences of such problems in the later stages of life.

Marital satisfaction is one of the factors that can bring happiness and satisfaction into marital life. Identifying variables that influence marital satisfaction is very important and essential to help maintain a marriage. Studies show that sexual knowledge and attitude as well as positive and negative affects can influence marital satisfaction in different ways. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the role of positive and negative affects in moderating the association of sexual knowledge and attitude with marital satisfaction. To this end, 300 married Afghans (148 males, 137 females, 15 unspecified) living in Kabul participated in this study. Participants were asked to complete the Knowledge and Attitude Scale (SKAS), the Golombok Rust Inventory of Marital State (GRIMS), and the Positive and Negative Affect Scale (PANAS). Results showed that sexual knowledge and attitude had a positive relationship with marital satisfaction. Positive and negative affects also had a statistically significant positive and negative relationship with marital satisfaction, respectively. The results also revealed that the relationship between sexual attitude and marital satisfaction was moderated by negative affects, however, it was not moderated by sexual knowledge. The moderating effect of positive affects on the association of sexual knowledge and attitude with marital satisfaction was not statistically significant. Based on the findings of the present study, it can be concluded that some affects can play a decisive role in the association of sexual knowledge and attitude with marital satisfaction. Identifying such affects as well as preventing them from being intensified, will have an influential impact on both marital and satisfaction and family relationships

Spiritual/religious perfectionism is one of the determinants of couple adjustment. Spiritual health, that has a strong relationship with spiritual/religious perfectionism, also has a determinant role in couple adjustment. The aim of the present study was to investigate the corelation of spiritual/religious perfectionism spiritual health with levels of couple adjustment. Three hundred and seven married individuals (148 men, 159 women) from a community sample living in Tehran participated in this study. All participants were asked to complete Spiritual/Religious Perfectionism Scale (SRPS), Spiritual Well-Being Scale (SWBS), and Golombok Rust Inventory of Marital State (GRIMS). Spiritual/religious perfectionism revealed a significant positive correlation with measures of couple adjustment. Spiritual health also revealed a significant positive correlation with couple adjustment. It can be concluded that both spiritual/religious perfectionism and spiritual health can be considered as determinants of couple adjustment. The findings also may support a new dimension of perfectionism, i.e. spiritual/religious perfectionism, separate from nonspiritual/nonreligious perfectionism. Teaching and encouraging spiritual/religious perfectionism within the educational systems from childhood in family and school can help implications of this kind of perfectionism to be achieved.

The Covid-19 pandemic presents the world with many problems in the dimensions of physical, psychological, social, economic, and political health. Therefore, investigating the influential factors on its psychological dimension could help reduce the anxiety caused by the epidemic. This study aimed to predict Corona disease anxiety based on cognitive emotional regulation with the mediating role of family function. From all of the employees and students in the Islamic Azad University, West Tehran branch, 204 persons were selected randomly in the 2020-2021 academic year. Subjects complete Corona Disease Anxiety Scale (CDAS), Family Assessment Device (FAD), and Cognitive-Emotion Regulation Questionnaires (CERQ). The results of the present study showed that the direct effects of adaptive strategies of cognitive emotional regulation and maladaptive strategies of cognitive emotional regulation on Corona disease anxiety components (psychological and physical symptoms), as well as negative direct effects of cognitive emotional regulation components on family function were significant (P<0/05). Also, significant and negative relationships existed between family function and Corona disease anxiety components. According to the findings, family function mediated the relationship between the two components of cognitive emotional regulation and Corona disease anxiety components. Thus, the results of the present study, in addition to expanding the research literature, emphasize the role of individual and family characteristics in predicting Corona disease anxiety and highlight the necessity of remarking on these factors to reduce it.

Quality of couple's relationship and their marital adjustment are influenced by several factors. Basic psychological needs and parental bondings are considered as important determinants for marital adjustment and quality of their relationships. The present study aimed to examine the moderating role of parental bonding on the relationship between basic psychological needs satisfaction and marital adjustment. A total of 278 married individuals (131 men, 147 women) living in Yazd city participated in the study. Participants were asked to complete the Basic Needs Satisfaction in General Scale (BNSG-S), Golombok Rust Inventory of Marital State (GRIMS), and Parental Bonding Inventory (PBI). Results showed that basic psychological needs satisfaction had a significant positive association with marital adjustment. Parental care and parental over protection showed positive and negative associations with marital adjustment, respectively. One of the long-term consequences of the parenting styles is the effect it has on the marital satisfaction of the children. An association between the basic psychological need satisfaction with parenting styles and marital satisfaction of the children has been approved. The aim of the present study was to examine the moderating role of basic psychological need satisfaction on the relationship between parenting styles and children's marital satisfaction. Two hundred and seventeen (123 women and 94 men) married participants completed Parental Authority Questionnaire (PAQ), Basic Needs Satisfaction in General Scale (BNSG-S), and the Golombok Rust Inventory of Marital State (GRIMS). The results indicated that the authoritative and permissive parenting styles had a positive significant association with marital satisfaction of their children, whereas the authoritarian style used by parents had a negative significant association with their offspring's marital satisfaction. The results also revealed that the authoritative parenting style had a positive significant relationship with the basic need satisfaction, whereas the mothers' authoritarian style had a negative significant relationship with the basic need satisfaction. No significant relationship was found between the fathers' authoritarian style and the permissive parenting style with the basic needs satisfaction. The results also revealed that the basic psychological need satisfaction moderated the relationship between the mothers' permissive style and their offspring's marital satisfaction. According to the findings of the present study, it can be concluded that the levels of children’s marital satisfaction are possibly influenced by their basic psychological need satisfaction as well as the parenting styles.

: Bullying, as the most prominent type of violence in schools, is defined as a state of power imbalance between two individuals in which the stronger person hurts the weaker person through repeatedly physical, verbal or psychological causes. The present study aimed at identifying the role of family functioning in bullying behaviors by affective empathy. Statistical population of the study included all the first grade male high school students of Bostan Abad city in the academic year of 2018/2019. 245 student participants completed the Family Functioning Device (FAD), the Bullying/Victim Questionnaire (B/VQ) and the Balanced Emotional Empathy Scale (BEES). The results indicated that poor family functioning was correlated negatively with empathy and positively with bullying behaviors. The results also showed a negative correlation between empathy and bullying behaviors. Path coefficients indicated that weak family functioning had a negative effect on empathy. It also had a meaningfully positive effect on bullying behaviors. Moreover, the effect of empathy path coefficient on bullying behavior was meaningful. In other words, poor family functioning could directly affect bullying behaviors through the mediation of empathy. According to the results, family functioning affects bullying behaviors through empathy both directly and indirectly. The findings of the present study can be used by psychologists and professionals to prevent bullying-related behaviors.
