Studies show that attachment styles can have a significant impact on the couple’s marital quality. This impact can be direct or indirect and can be in interaction with other significant psychological variables including the spouse’s perception of sacrificing behaviors. This study aimed to investigate the direct and indirect effects of attachment styles on women’s marital quality through spouse’s perception of sacrificing behaviors as a mediator. 130 married female students of Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz participated and completed the Experiences in Close Relationships- Revised (ECR-R) Questionnaire, the Perception of Sacrificing Behaviors Measure (PDM), and the Measure of Marital Quality (MMQ). The tested model in the sample had a good fit. Results of the structural equation showed that style had direct and indirect effects on marital quality, through spouse’s perception of sacrificing behaviors, though avoidance attachment style had a negative indirect effect on marital quality through sacrificing behaviors. Findings of the present study showed that the relationship between attachment styles and marital quality was not a simple linear one but spouse’s perception of sacrificing behaviors could play a mediating role in this relationship. Findings of the present study suggest that the impact of attachment styles on spouse’s perception of sacrificing behaviors should be taken into account by therapists when working on family relationships enhancement.

Abstract: Sexual satisfaction and marital adjustment are the important aspects of married life that strictly affect the quality and stability of the relationship between couples. Studies have shown that several factors including psychological, social, economic, personal and demographic characteristics affect the sexual satisfaction and marital adjustment. The aim of the present study was to predict the levels of sexual satisfaction and marital adjustment based on job variables, commitment, intimacy and sexual knowledge and attitude. For this purpose, 100 employees of the Oil Company (50 expatriate, 50 non-employees) were selected as sample group using a convenience sampling method. Participants completed The Golombok-Rust Inventory of Sexual State Questionnaire (GRISS), The Golombok-Rust Inventory of Marital State Questionnaire (GRIMS), Table of job information, Dimensions of Commitment Inventory (DCI), Intimacy Scale (IS), and the Sexual Knowledge and Attitude Scale (SKAS). The results showed that no significant correlation existed between sexual satisfaction and marital adjustment with job variables, while the commitment, intimacy and sexual knowledge and attitude had a positive relationship with sexual satisfaction and marital adjustment. Also, sexual satisfaction could be predicted by intimacy and sexual knowledge and attitude. Marital adjustment was also predicted by the commitment and intimacy. The results also showed that among the variables, intimacy had the largest share in prediction of sexual satisfaction and commitment had the largest share in prediction of marital adjustment. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that job variables do not affect sexual satisfaction and marital adjustment, while the commitment, intimacy and sexual knowledge and attitude play a determining role in prediction of sexual satisfaction and marital adjustment.

Coronavirus conditions have caused stress in people and have imposed much damage on them. Traumatic conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) cause dysfunctional relationships and even violence between spouses. The present study was an attempt to predict domestic violence against women during coronavirus quarantine based on cognitive flexibility with the mediating role of resilience. The present correlational type of study was conducted on a sample of 241 married women in the Karaj city by using the violence against women questionnaire (VTWI), cognitive flexibility inventory (CFI), and resilience scale (CD-RISC). The results of the present study revealed that the direct and positive effects of psychological flexibility on the components of controllability perception and the direct and positive effects of behavior justification perception on resilience were significant. There was a significant and positive relationship between resilience and domestic violence. Resilience also mediated the relationship between the components of controllability perception and behavior justification perception and domestic violence. Results of the present study revealed that women's psychological factors play a major role in causing violence towards them, and therapists can consider these factors in the treatment sessions of women under violence to reduce violence towards women.

Divorce is one of the most complex social phenomena that shakes the foundations of the family, and its most destructive effects will be on children. The objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness of Positive Psychology Training on reducing internalized behavioral problems of children from divorced families. The research design was a quasi-experimental pre-test-post-test with a control group. The sample consisted of 40 students who were selected by the available sampling method from elementary schools of Ajabshir city and then randomly assigned to two experimental (n=20) and control groups (n=20). Child Behavioral Checklist Questionnaire (CBCL) was used to collect data. For the experimental group, 15 sessions of a positivity intervention program were held for 5 consecutive weeks and the control group did not receive any intervention. The results indicated that internalizing behavioral problems of students participating in the Positive Psychology classroom significantly decreased compared to the control group. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Positive Psychology Training program will reduce and assist children in internalizing problems. Consistent with the findings of the present study, the therapy based on a positive approach can be used as an effective treatment to reduce internalized disorders such as anxiety, depression, and isolation in children from divorced families.

In many research studies, it has been pointed out that parents are effective in raising their children. Parents have always sought to transfer their lives’ values and meanings to their children. But, in the literature of Persian research, there has not been an in-depth study of the way this effect has been done. The present study aimed to analyze how parents play this role through a qualitative research method and an interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). To this end, a semi-structured interview was conducted with ten parents of Iranian families. Moreover, data analysis was carried out by Smith’s IPA. The analyses’ results led to two main themes (i.e., “Different strategies of parents to transmit values and meanings to children” and “Affectability of transmission strategies”). Furthermore, the sub-themes included "transmission through verbal and non-verbal behavior", "relationship control as a strategy", "control of the environment as a strategy", "effect of parents’ trust in children in strategy selection", "effect of parents’ personal experience about their parents", "effect of children personality differences in strategy selection", "effect of gradual changes in parents personalities in strategy selection", "effect of child’s developmental stage in strategy selection", "effect of psychological teachings in strategy selection", "parental discord in strategy selection", and "effectiveness of importance of a value in strategy selection". This study’s results revealed that the process of transferring values and the meaning of life was influenced by the content the parents intended to transfer; moreover, the parents’ strategies in the path of transfer were affected by various factors, from the parents’ inner thoughts to the children-related variables.

Discrepancy between actual perceived self and what the individual considers as standard guidelines, can results in unpleasant mental and emotional outcomes. So it can affect the form and maintaining relation of couples and their life satisfaction. The aim of the present study was to examine the comparison of self-discrepancy among divorcing and non-divorcing individuals. A total of 239 volunteers (122 divorcing and 117 non-divorcing individuals), in Tehran, participated in this study. All participants were asked to complete Self-Discrepancy Index (SDI). The results showed that the divorcing individuals reported significantly higher on levels of self-discrepancy. The results also revealed that personal actual-ought self-discrepancy, personal actual-feared self-discrepancy, others actual-ought self-discrepancy, and others actual/ feared self-discrepancy were different in the two groups. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the distance between selves and realities can provide dissatisfaction in couples, and subsequently marital disruption can follow. In other words, each couple, based on certain patterns of self-discrepancy among aspects of selves, can experience different emotional consequences, so their conflict can create problems for them. The comparison between selves can affect marital satisfaction, so that it can lead to dissolution of marital relationship.

Intimacy in marriage is essential for maintaining marital and family relationships. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of the Gottman Couple Therapy (GCT) and the Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFCT) methods on marital intimacy. For this purpose, 36 couples were selected from among all couples referring to Aramesh, Ofogh, and Khanevadeh in Shahrood counseling centers in 2017. The subjects were matched based on having a score of Spanier (DAS) below average. They were then randomly assigned to two experimental and one control groups. Participants were asked to complete the marital intimacy Needs Questionnaire (Bagarozzi, 2001) in the pretest and posttest stages. Afterwards, one group received GCT for 10 weeks, and the other group was subjected to EFCT for 9 weeks, while the control group was on the waiting list. The results showed that both experimental groups showed improvements in Marital Intimacy than the control group. A significant difference was also found between the effectiveness of GCT and EFCT methods on Marital Intimacy in couples, so that the GCT group was more successful in Marital Intimacy. Although significant changes were observed in all components of marital intimacy in both experimental groups compared to the control group, the two experimental groups were significantly different in four components namely, Emotional, Psychological, Sexual, Physical and Recreational. Based on the results of the present study, it can be concluded that GCT couple therapy is more effective on couple's intimacy than the emotional couple therapy.

Shift work in different jobs, especially health care jobs, is associated with various negative consequences such as reduced marital satisfaction. However, there are some aspects such as flexible jobs and spouse support that prevent this decline. Accordingly, the present study aimed to investigate the moderating role of perceived job flexibility and spouse support in the relationship between shift work and marital satisfaction. The research method was correlational. 130 employees of Dr. Gharazi Hospital in Isfahan in the fall of 1400 were selected by convenience sampling method. The research instruments included Spouse Support Scale (SSS), Perceived Job Flexibility Questionnaire (PJFQ) and Enrich Marital Satisfaction Questionnaire (EMS) which were provided online to respond to sample members. Data were analyzed by SPSS 23 software using correlation analysis, and Hayes processor extension in regression analysis. The results of correlation analysis showed that the relationship between marital satisfaction with shift is negative and spouse support and perceived job flexibility is positive and significant (p<0.05). The results also confirmed the moderating role of perceived job flexibility and spouse support in the relationship between shift work and marital satisfaction (p<0.05). According to the results of the study, Job flexibility and support training are recommended for spouses of shift workers to increase marital satisfaction.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of attachment styles (anxiety and avoidance), relational attributions (causal and responsibility attributions) with violence against women. From among all the female violence victims referring to the social security center of Shiraz 130 women were selected through convenient sampling method. They completed the Experiences in Close Relationships-Revised Questionnaire (ECR-R), the Relationship Attribution Measure (RAM) and Violence Toward Women Inventory (VTWI). The data were analyzed using simple correlation and multiple regression. The results revealed a significantly positive correlation between anxiety and avoidance attachments, causal and responsibility Attributions and the violence exercised against women. The results of multiple regression also showed that anxiety and avoidance attachments, causal and responsibility attributions explained 64 percent of the total variance in the violence exercised against women. According to the results, it can be said that a pervasive fear of being rejected and an excessive dependence on a partner in anxious people, getting evasive about intimacy and avoiding husband in avoidant people, an excessive concentration on the negative behavior of the partner by the women with causal attributions, and seeking for blaming partner by the women with responsibility attributions can bring about violence against women. The results of the current study can help the therapists to diagnose the effective factors in violence against women. The results also showed that violence against women is not merely confined to men’s role, but women and their relational characteristics play an influential role in this disorder.

A total of 100 couples (100 men, 100 women) participated in this study. Participants were asked to complete the Adjustment to Illness Scale (AIS), the Golombok Rust Inventory of Marital state (GRIMS), the Survey of Personal Beliefs (SPB), and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). The results showed a significant negative association between marital problems and adjustment to infertility. Irrational beliefs and social support showed negative and positive correlations with adjustment to infertility, respectively. No significant difference was shown between men and women in terms of adjustment to infertility. The results revealed that adjustment to infertility could be explained by indices of marital relationship quality, personal beliefs, and social support. Based on the results of the present investigation, the importance of psychosocial characteristics of infertile couples, as well as routine medical services, is suggested. This can lead the couples to more adjustment to infertility and improvement of their mental health state.

Marital distress and increasing tendency towards divorce causes extreme harm for the children of divorce, divorcees, families and the entire society. Evaluating effective ways of encountering divorce is thus of paramount importance. The present study aimed to examine the effectiveness of family therapy based on Bowen’s family system theory and logo therapy in marital life quality (marital adjustment) and tendency for divorce among divorce seeking clients. The statistical population included divorce applicants referring to Sanandaj counseling centers in Fall and Winter of 1396. 36 male and female applicants were randomly selected and assigned to experimental and control groups (12 each). The Divorce Tendency Questionnaire (DTQ) and the Revised Dyadic Adjustment Scale (RDAS) were used to gather the data. Each group received 8 one- hour weekly family therapy training based on the Bowen’s family systems and logo therapy. Repeated measures tests showed that both logo therapy and Bowen’s family systems could significantly enhance dyadic adjustment level and its components (agreement, satisfaction, and dyadic coherence) and reduce tendency towards divorce. Also, results of the BONFERRONI post hoc test showed that family therapy based on logo therapy was more effective in reducing divorce tendency and Bowen’s family systems theory was more effective in increasing dyadic adjustment.

The present study was conducted to compare the effectiveness of Affective Reconstructive, and Emotional-Focused therapies on the forgiveness and psychological well-being in women who filed for a divorce with a history of early marriage. The research method was experimental with pre-test, and post-test design with control and follow-up groups. The statistical population included all women who filed for a divorce (with a history of early marriage) in Ardabil city in 2020. The participants were selected using the convenience sampling method and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups; they participated in each treatment for eight sessions of 90 minutes once a week. The interpersonal forgiveness scale (IF-25) and Ryff psychological well-being scale (1989) was used to collect data. Data were then analyzed using the repeated measures analysis of variance and Bonferroni post hoc test. The findings showed that Affective Reconstructive and Emotional-Focused therapy were effective in increasing forgiveness and psychological well-being in women who filed for a divorce, but the effectiveness of Affective Reconstructive therapy was significantly higher than Emotional-focused therapy. Therefore, in terms of the low level of forgiveness and psychological well-being in women who filed for a divorce, Affective Reconstructive, and Emotional-Focused therapies can use to improve forgiveness and psychological well-being in women who filed for a divorce

Abstract: In many couples, the primary positive feelings are decreased by passing time and are replaced with acute conflicts. Using destructive conflict resolution styles increases the distance between the couples, while their ability to apply problem solving skills can be a factor to improve the couples’ relationships. The present study was conducted aiming at determining the effectiveness of Olson Circumference Model in the couples’ resiliency and marital conflicts. The present study was an experimental research of pretest-posttest type with a control group. Participants of the study were 20 couples assigned to the experimental and the control groups. The experimental group was then influenced by the Olson Circumplex Model during eight (90-120 minutes) instruction held once a week. The instruments of the study were Resiliency Scale (CD-RISC) and Marital Conflict Questionnaire (MCQ). The results demonstrated that there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental group in resiliency and marital conflicts. It can be concluded that training in the Olson Circumplex Model has increased resiliency and decreased marital conflict in couples and this effect was durable over the time. Considering the findings of the present research, it can also be concluded that the Olson Circumplex Model can be used by specialists and family therapists.

Abstract: Emotional divorce is the most important stage in the divorce process and indicates a declining marital relationship, which has increased in recent years. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the relationship between lovemaking styles and cognitive distortions with emotional divorce in women. The research design was descriptive, of correlational type. The statistical population of the present study was all married women in District 2 of Tehran in 2019. To conduct this study, 150 people were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria and asked to complete the Emotional Divorce Scale (EDS), Sternberg Love Scale (SLS), and the Interpersonal Cognitive Distortions Scale (ICDS). The results of the study showed that emotional divorce has a significant negative relationship with each of the dimensions of lovemaking styles, i.e. sincere love, passionate love and committed love and have a significant positive relationship with each of the dimensions of cognitive distortions, i.e. rejection in interpersonal relationships, unrealistic expectations in relationships and misunderstanding in interpersonal relationships. In addition, according to other results of the study, among the styles of lovemaking, "committed style" and among the cognitive distortions, "misunderstanding in interpersonal relationships" were significant predictors of emotional divorce in women. Therefore, counselors and therapists can reduce the likelihood of emotional divorce in women by providing timely and appropriate interventions and training in the field of lovemaking styles and cognitive distortions.

Engagement and the first years of marriage are important milestones in the family life cycle. The purpose of the present study was to determine the effectiveness of Gottman's premarital education in comparison with the SYMBIS model on the patterns and injuries of Turkmen married couples. The research method was quasi-experimental with two experimental groups, a control group, pre-test, post-test, and 3-month follow-up and 24 couples from Turkmen couples who referred to Gonbadkavos New Life Counseling Center from July to October 2019. Purposefully selected and randomly divided into two groups of experimental marital enrichment by Gottman method (8 couples = 16 persons), SIMBIS model pre-marital enrichment (8 couples = 16 persons), and control group (8 couples = 16 persons). Were replaced. Gottman's premarital training sessions lasted 8 sessions for 4 weeks, 90 minutes two sessions per week, and SYMBIS premarital training sessions for 8 sessions, 90 minutes weekly for 4 weeks. Was. Participants in all three groups completed the Questionnaire Evaluation and Measurement Patterns and Premarital damage Rostami, Navabinejad, and Farzad (2019). Data were analyzed using repeated-measures analysis of variance. The results showed that the effect of Gottman's premarital intervention and SIMBIS's premarital intervention on dysfunctional communication patterns (F = 6.44, P = 0.003), ineffective relationship management patterns (F = 3.68, P = 0.033), Couples' value system (F = 9.17, P = 0.001), schema mentality (F = 3.80, P = 0.030), and the destructive effects of the main family (F = 11.58, P = 0.001) are effective. Influence remained constant at follow-up. The results of the Tukey post hoc test also showed that there was no difference between Gottman's premarital intervention and the SYMBIS model. Since both methods lead to improved patterns of pre-marriage trauma and trauma for participants, it can be used as an effective intervention to resolve problems and improve the couple's relationship.

The objective of this study was to compare the effectiveness of emotionally focused couple therapy and Gottman’s couple therapy in commitment in the relationship and the couple’s attachment trauma. The study followed a quasi-experimental research design with a pretest-posttest and a control group. The statistical population of the study included all couples who referred to psychology and counseling centers under the supervision of the judiciary in Tehran in 2020. Among the population, 21 couples were randomly selected and were randomly assigned into the first experimental group, the second experimental group, and the control group. Data were collected using the Adams and Jones’ Dimensions of Commitment Inventory (DCI) and Milkin’s Attachment Injury Measure (AIM). The experimental groups underwent intervention for seven 1.5-hour sessions (once a week) and the control group did not receive any intervention. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance and Bonferroni post hoc test using SPSS software (version 26). Emotionally focused couple therapy and Gottman’s couple therapy (in comparison with the control group) had significant effects on the commitment in the relationship (F = 60.580, P < 0.001) and the attachment trauma (F = 41.875, P <0.001). In addition, emotionally focused couple therapy was more effective in the commitment in the relationship and the couple attachment trauma (P < 0.001). Emotionally focused couple therapy, compared to Gottman’s couple therapy, could be a more effective intervention to improve marital commitment and repair couples’ attachment trauma. The implications of the study regarding determining the effective treatment and future studies are discussed.
