The crucial role of marital satisfaction in the health of the individual, family, and society has attracted many researchers in the last few decades. Thus, multiple studies have been done on this issue. The current study investigated the factors related to marital satisfaction in Iran. This research was developmental in terms of its purpose. In terms of the nature of the data, it was a meta-analysis. Moreover, to analyze the data, we applied Sandelowski and Barroso’s models to combine the qualitative data. In this regard, according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a sample group consisting of twenty-one articles was selected for analysis. The results of this study led to the identification of four categories, including individual, marital, family, and environmental factors which affected the couples’ marital satisfaction. In addition, the category of marital factors which referred to the concepts related to marital relationship was named as the main category affecting marital satisfaction. The results of this meta-analysis showed that to achieve optimal marital satisfaction, one should pay attention to the individual, family, and environmental factors along with strengthening the marital relationships between a couple. Nevertheless, the factors related to marital relationships had the most influential role in marital satisfaction.

Marriage, as one of the oldest links between humans and the origin of the family, nurtures human character; as a small natural group, it has been the focus of many researchers. Among all the important relationships in human life, marital relationship is one of the most important relationships for human well-being. A desirable marital relationship not only fulfills the need for connection but also is an intimate and reliable relationship which creates a deep sense of connection and belonging. The present study was conducted to investigate the relationship between self-esteem and marital satisfaction with the mediation of alexithymia and communication skills. The study’s method was of the correlational type and the statistical population was made up of all married students of Tehran universities who had been married for at least one year. Among the population, 212 students were voluntarily selected through the available sampling method. They filled out Enrich’s Marital Satisfaction Scale (EMS), Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale (SES), Toronto’s Alexithymia (TAS-20), and Queen Dam’s Communication Skills (CSTR). The data was analyzed using the structural equation modeling method (df/X2 = 1.62, CFI = 0.975, GFI = 0.966, and RMSEA = 0.054). The results showed that communication skills had a positive and significant effect and alexithymia had a negative and significant effect on marital satisfaction. Communication skills mediated the relationship between self-esteem and marital satisfaction positively. In addition, self-esteem with the mediation of alexithymia could positively affect marital satisfaction (P < 0.05). It showed that self-esteem had a positive and significant relationship with marital satisfaction. Considering that marital satisfaction is one of the most important determinants of the efficiency and health of the family, paying attention to the factors affecting it can consider the physical and mental health of people as family members.

Shift work in different jobs, especially health care jobs, is associated with various negative consequences such as reduced marital satisfaction. However, there are some aspects such as flexible jobs and spouse support that prevent this decline. Accordingly, the present study aimed to investigate the moderating role of perceived job flexibility and spouse support in the relationship between shift work and marital satisfaction. The research method was correlational. 130 employees of Dr. Gharazi Hospital in Isfahan in the fall of 1400 were selected by convenience sampling method. The research instruments included Spouse Support Scale (SSS), Perceived Job Flexibility Questionnaire (PJFQ) and Enrich Marital Satisfaction Questionnaire (EMS) which were provided online to respond to sample members. Data were analyzed by SPSS 23 software using correlation analysis, and Hayes processor extension in regression analysis. The results of correlation analysis showed that the relationship between marital satisfaction with shift is negative and spouse support and perceived job flexibility is positive and significant (p<0.05). The results also confirmed the moderating role of perceived job flexibility and spouse support in the relationship between shift work and marital satisfaction (p<0.05). According to the results of the study, Job flexibility and support training are recommended for spouses of shift workers to increase marital satisfaction.

Marital satisfaction has been widely acknowledged as a crucial determinant of marriage stability. One key factor that impacts marital satisfaction is the type of behavioral activation and inhibition system present in an individual. Individual differences in the behavioral brain system play a significant role in how couples respond to interpersonal problems, resulting in distinct behavioral feedback. If utilized correctly, this system can positively impact the quality of a couple's relationship and promote family stability. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between behavioral activation/inhibition systems and marital satisfaction with the mediation of mentalization. The research was conducted using a correlation method, and the statistical population comprised married individuals residing in Tehran in 2021. Of these, a sample size of 370 was selected using a multi-stage cluster sampling method and administered a demographic questionnaire, the Enrich Marital Satisfaction Questionnaire, the Behavioral Activation and Inhibition Scale, and the mentalization Questionnaire. The results of the path analysis indicated that the behavioral inhibition system with the mediation of mentalization is effective in marital satisfaction, and the inhibition system has a negative and meaningful relationship with marital satisfaction and mentalization. On the other hand, mentalization had a direct, positive, and significant impact on marital satisfaction. Additionally, the activation system significantly impacted marital satisfaction with the mediation of mentalization. The activation system had a direct, positive, and significant impact on mentalization, but only a positive and direct relationship between the activation system and marital satisfaction could not be established. These findings suggest that the behavioral activation and inhibition system can predict marital satisfaction directly and indirectly through mentalization. Consequently, it is recommended that experts in the field of family examine these structures to promote marital satisfaction among couples.

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of cognitive hypnosis therapy on the body image and marital satisfaction of women. The study's design was of type of quasi-experimental and pre-test-post-test-follow-up with the control group. The statistical population included all women referred to one of the counselling centers of Babolsar. 22 women were selected by available sampling method and according to inclusion criteria and assigned to experimental and control groups randomly (11 subjects for each group). The experimental group individually received cognitive hypnosis therapy for 11 ninety minutes weekly sessions, while the control group did not receive any intervention during this period. Both groups answered the Littleton Body Image Scale (BICI) and Enrich Marital Satisfaction questionnaire (ESQ-47) in three stages of pre-test, post-test, and follow-up. The collected data were analyzed using the covariance analysis statistical method and the Ben Ferroni post hoc test. The results of covariance analysis showed a significant difference between body image and marital satisfaction scores in post-test and follow-up stages of both experimental and control groups and cognitive hypnosis therapy resulted in increasing marital satisfaction and improving women's body image and after two months the results were consistent. Therefore, based on the findings of the present study, the use of cognitive hypnosis therapy can be suggested as a suitable and effective treatment method in individual, familial, and couples counseling.

Especially, more family relationships between kinship couples in some cases can lead to misunderstandings and differences if not properly managed, which weakens the couple's interactions. Of course, one of the reasons for the weakness in communication skills between kinship couples, in turn, can be the inability to use the right problem-solving methods, which can be controlled and managed to a large extent through training and counseling.

Marital satisfaction plays an important role in the couple's life expectancy. It has been found that this construct is related to the occupational and personality characteristics of the couples. Accordingly, in this study, the mediating role of work-family conflict in the relationship between proactive personality and marital satisfaction has been assessed. The sample consisted of 142 married men and women working in an organization in Isfahan who were selected by simple random sampling and responded to research measures including the Proactive Personality Scale (PPS), the ENRICH Marital Satisfaction Scale (ENRICH), and the Work-Family Conflict Scale (WFCS). SPSS software and correlation coefficient and mediation analysis with the Bootstrap method was used for data analysis. The result showed a positive relationship between proactive personality and marital satisfaction. Also, there were negative relationships between proactive personality and work-family conflict and between marital satisfaction and work-family conflict. The mediating role of work-family conflict was also confirmed. Based on the results, organizations can use employees and applicants with proactive personality in occupations that, due to their special nature, may create work-family conflict. Organizational staff can also teach conflict management techniques to employees with proactive personalities by conducting training courses, thereby reducing work-family conflict, and improve marital satisfaction.

Marital satisfaction is one of the factors that can bring happiness and satisfaction into marital life. Identifying variables that influence marital satisfaction is very important and essential to help maintain a marriage. Studies show that sexual knowledge and attitude as well as positive and negative affects can influence marital satisfaction in different ways. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the role of positive and negative affects in moderating the association of sexual knowledge and attitude with marital satisfaction. To this end, 300 married Afghans (148 males, 137 females, 15 unspecified) living in Kabul participated in this study. Participants were asked to complete the Knowledge and Attitude Scale (SKAS), the Golombok Rust Inventory of Marital State (GRIMS), and the Positive and Negative Affect Scale (PANAS). Results showed that sexual knowledge and attitude had a positive relationship with marital satisfaction. Positive and negative affects also had a statistically significant positive and negative relationship with marital satisfaction, respectively. The results also revealed that the relationship between sexual attitude and marital satisfaction was moderated by negative affects, however, it was not moderated by sexual knowledge. The moderating effect of positive affects on the association of sexual knowledge and attitude with marital satisfaction was not statistically significant. Based on the findings of the present study, it can be concluded that some affects can play a decisive role in the association of sexual knowledge and attitude with marital satisfaction. Identifying such affects as well as preventing them from being intensified, will have an influential impact on both marital and satisfaction and family relationships

One of the long-term consequences of the parenting styles is the effect it has on the marital satisfaction of the children. An association between the basic psychological need satisfaction with parenting styles and marital satisfaction of the children has been approved. The aim of the present study was to examine the moderating role of basic psychological need satisfaction on the relationship between parenting styles and children's marital satisfaction. Two hundred and seventeen (123 women and 94 men) married participants completed Parental Authority Questionnaire (PAQ), Basic Needs Satisfaction in General Scale (BNSG-S), and the Golombok Rust Inventory of Marital State (GRIMS). The results indicated that the authoritative and permissive parenting styles had a positive significant association with marital satisfaction of their children, whereas the authoritarian style used by parents had a negative significant association with their offspring's marital satisfaction. The results also revealed that the authoritative parenting style had a positive significant relationship with the basic need satisfaction, whereas the mothers' authoritarian style had a negative significant relationship with the basic need satisfaction. No significant relationship was found between the fathers' authoritarian style and the permissive parenting style with the basic needs satisfaction. The results also revealed that the basic psychological need satisfaction moderated the relationship between the mothers' permissive style and their offspring's marital satisfaction. According to the findings of the present study, it can be concluded that the levels of children’s marital satisfaction are possibly influenced by their basic psychological need satisfaction as well as the parenting styles.

One of the most important factors affecting marital satisfaction is early childhood experiences with parents. These experiences have an important role in developing attachment and early maladaptive schemas. The present study was performed to investigate the mediating role of early maladaptive schemas in relationship between attachment styles and marital satisfaction. A total of 333 participants (194 women and 139 men) completed the Hazan and Shaver's Adult Attachment Questionnaire (AAQ), Young Schema Questionnaire (YSQ) and Enriching and Nurturing Relationship Issues, Communication and Happiness (ENRICH). The results showed that there is no significant relationship between avoidant-attachment style and marital satisfaction, but marital satisfaction had significant positive relationship with secure attachment style and significant negative relationship with ambivalent-attachment style. Also, the early maladaptive schemas mediate these relationships. Based on the results of the present study it can be concluded that individuals who have more secure attachment style develop more positive concept of self, as the result, they have less maladaptive schemas. So they follow more adaptive behaviors and less maladaptive behaviors in their marital relationships, therefore they will experience more marital satisfaction. In contrast, the individuals who have more insecure and ambivalent attachment style have more negative concept of self, therefore they own more maladaptive schemas about self, hence more maladaptive behaviors and less marital satisfaction.
